Fluorescence
in situ hybridization (FISH) techniques allow specific nucleic acid sequences to be detected in morphologically preserved chromosomes, cells or tissue sections. In combination with immunocytochemistry, FISH can relate microscopic topological information to gene activity at the DNA, RNA, and protein level.
