PEG5-Ms is a PEG derivative with a mesyl group and a hydroxyl group. The mesyl group is good leaving groups but can also be used as protecting groups for primary alcohols. They can be deprotected in the presence of sodium amalgam. The hydroxyl group can be reacted to further derivatize the compound. The hydrophilic PEG linker increases the water solubility of the compound in aqueous media
