An anthroquinone derivative found in St. John’s wort; inhibits neuronal uptake of serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine, GABA, and L-glutamate; broad spectrum phototoxic effects (IC50 = 140-1570 nM) in cancer cells; induces apoptotic signaling and formation of ROS; in vitro antiviral activity against HIV, influenza, hepatitis C, murine cytolomegalovirus, and herpes viruses
