A phytosterol; inhibits recombinant sterol Δ24-reductase (Ki = 42.7 µM) in vitro; increases accumulation of desmosterol and inhibits cholesterol formation in HL-60 cells in a dose-dependent manner; inhibits the hemolytic activity of pneumolysin from S. pneumoniae
