Description
Methicillin is a semisynthetic, narrow spectrum β-lactamase-resistant penicillin antibiotic. It has bactericidal and beta-lactamase resistant activity. It was used to treat infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus. It binds to specific penicillin-binding proteins (BPBs) on the bacterial cell wall, thus preventing the cross-linkage of peptidoglycans, which leads to an interruption of the bacterial cell wall and causes bacterial lysis. It is susceptible to a penicillin-binding protein. It has been listed
