Inositol is a chemical compound found in many foods, especially oranges and cantaloupe. It is well-absorbed and relatively bioavailable. It is a component of membrane phospholipids. lt is important as the structural basis for a number of secondary messengers in eukaryotic cells. It serves as an important component of the structural lipids phosphatidylinositol (PI) and its various phosphates, the phosphatidylinositol phosphate (PIP) lipids
