Description
S100A9 is a calcium- and zinc-binding protein which plays a prominent role in the regulation of inflammatory processes and immune response. This protein, which may function in the inhibition of casein kinase and as a cytokine, can induce neutrophil chemotaxis and adhesion. It is a member of S-100 family and contains 2 EF-hand calcium binding domains. Although it can exist as a homodimer, it preferentially exists as a heterodimer or heterotetramer with S100A8 [Cat. No. 90122] known as calprotectin (S100A8/A9)
