Description
CSF2 was initiallycharacterized as a growth factor that can support the in vitro colonyformation of granulocyte-macrophage progenitors. It is produced by a numberof different cell types (including activated T cells, B cells, macrophages, mast cells, endothelial cells and fibroblasts) in response to cytokine orimmune and inflammatory stimuli. Besides granulocyte-macrophage progenitors,CSF2 is also a growth factor for erythroid, megakaryocyte and eosinophilprogenitors. On mature hematopoietic cells, CSF2 is a survival factor for andactivates the effector functions of granulocytes, monocytes, macrophages, andeosinophils
