ASGR2 mediates endocytosis of desialylated glycoproteins, recognizing galactose and N-acetylgalactosamine units. Ligand binding leads to internalization and sorting organelle transport, followed by receptor return to the cell membrane. The receptor is suggested to function as a dimer.
