Human C-Reactive Protein (CRP) Purified has been purified from human pleural fluid. This is a liquid buffered in tris chloride, sodium chloride, and calcium chloride, pH8.0 with 0.09% sodium azide, with a concentration of 1-5mg/ml and a purity of greater than 99% as determined by SDS-PAGE analysis.

The main role of CRP is to bind to the surface of dead/dying cells and some types of bacteria, which activates the complement system and promotes phagocytosis by the appropriate macrophages to clear these cells/bacteria. CRP is part of innate immunity, acting as an early defense against infection
