A peptide hormone; an agonist of V1A receptors; binds to rat and human V1A receptors (Kis = 1.2 and 10.1 nM, respectively); increases intracellular calcium levels in cultured rat and human aortic cells (Kact = 12 and 20.8 nM, respectively); induces vasoconstriction in isolated mesenteric arteries from normotensive and spontaneously hypertensive rats; has antidiuretic effects in non-anesthetized dwarf pigs
