The CCND1 protein is a regulatory component of the cyclin D1-CDK4 complex that coordinates phosphorylation and RB family inhibition to regulate the G(1)/S transition. This promotes the dissociation of E2F from the RB/E2F complex and promotes the transcription of E2F target genes critical for G(1) phase progression.
