Introduction: Astroviruses are the main cause of gastroenteritis in children and elderly adults. Astroviruses are associated with 5–9% of cases of gastroenteritis in young children. The virus is found in faecal matter and in epithelial intestinal cells. Astrovirus's main transmission is by contaminated food or water.
