Description
Thy-1 is a glycosyl phosphatidylinositol (GPI)- anchored glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin superfamily expressed in various cell types, particularly in T-lymphocytes and cells of the neuronal system. Thy-1 is involved in cell adhesion, and the presence of a RLD motifs, which is recognized by intengrins, strengthen the hypothesis that the Thy-1:integrin interaction is responsible for cell attachment. In astrocytes, binding of Thy-1 to beta3-integrin triggers tyrosine phosphorylation of focal adhesion proteins
