Description
Mouse Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) is the founding member of the EGF family of growth factors that are implicated in cell proliferation and differentiation. EGF is a potent growth factor that stimulates the proliferation of various epidermal and epithelial cells. EGF has also been shown to inhibit gastric secretion, and to be involved in wound healing. EGF family members signal through four different receptor tyrosine kinases: EGFR/ErbB1, ErbB2, ErbB3 and ErbB4. Mice lacking EGF do not exhibit an abnormal phenotype, but transgenic mice over-expressing EGF exhibit hypospermatogenesis. Recombinant Mouse EGF is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 53 amino acids including 3 intramolecular disulfide bonds.
