Description

Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are a group of more than 150 related viruses. HPV 16 and 18 considered as high-risk HPVs, now recognized as the cause of essentially all cervical cancers, as well as most cases of anal cancer. These two types of HPV together cause about 70 percent of all cases of cervical cancer. In addition, infection with high-risk HPVs, mainly HPV type 16, causes about 85 percent of anal cancers. Some oropharyngeal cancers are also caused by HPV infection—almost exclusively by HPV 16. Cervical cancer is diagnosed in nearly half a million women each year worldwide, claiming a quarter of a million lives annually. HPV 16 large capsid is used in clinical diagnosis to test the specific antibody to this virus induced by the virus infection, the positive reaction of this antibody is considered as a marker for current and past infection. HPV 16 large capsid has been used in the vaccine production. Recombinant rHPV16 antigen is a 56.7 kDa protein covering full length of HPV16 major capsid, its N-terminus is fused with GST tag. The total molecular size is 82.70 kDa
