Description

Nerve growth factor receptor (NGFR), also known as the low-affinity receptor p75NTR is a transmembrane glycoprotein without intrinsic tyrosine kinase activity, whose expression is not restricted to neural cells. NGFR is reported to act as a tumour suppressor, negatively regulating cell growth and proliferation. It is also involved in several diverse functions such as apoptosis, neurite outgrowth during development, and myelination. p75NGFR contributes to delayed neuronal death (DND) after ischemia by an apoptotic mechanism
