Description
The interleukin-18 receptor 1 (IL18R1), also known as CDw218a (cluster of differentiation w218a), is a cytokine receptor that belongs to the interleukin 1 receptor family, and a single-pass type Ⅰmembrane protein contining three Ig-ike C2-type domains within the ECD. It specifically binds interleukin 18 (IL18) and is essential for IL18 mediated signal transduction, and it is reported that binding to the agonist leads to the activation of NF-kappa-B. IL-18 receptor was first described in 1989. It induces synthesis and release of IFN-gamma, IL- 8, 4 and 13, TNF-alpha and granulocyte/macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF). It modulates the function of many immunocompetent cells including macrophages, monocytes, lymphocytes and granulocytes. Another feature of IL-18 receptor is its ability to induce apoptosis of many cell types by inducing Fas ligand and receptor, aas well as granzymes. High level of IL18R1 expression is detected in Hodgkin"s disease cell lines
