Description
Complexin1 belongs to a family of SNARE complex binding proteins that were suggested to be either facilitators or inhibitors of vesicle exocytosis. Complexin 1 exhibits reduced Ca2+-triggered fast neurotransmitter release at hippocampal glutamatergic synapses, indicating that this protein is a positive regulator of transmitter release. In contrast, it inhibits SNARE-mediated liposome and cell fusions in vitro, which lead to the hypothesis that it acts as fusion clamps of synaptic exocytosis
