Functionally, this protein is reported to be a histone chaperone that specifically mediates the genome-wide removal of histone H2AZ/H2AZ1 from the nucleosome: removes H2AZ/H2AZ1 from its normal sites of deposition, especially from enhancer and insulator regions. The canonical protein structure is reported to have an amino acid length of 268 residues, a mass of 30.7 kDa, and is a member of the ANP32 protein family. It is known to be localized in the nucleus and cytoplasm and is reported to be expressed in peripheral blood leukocytes, colon, small intestine, prostate, thymus, spleen, skeletal muscle, liver and kidney. As many as 3 protein isoforms have been reported. The protein has been noted to be post-translationally phosphorylated.
