The protein, with a mass of 140 kDa and length of 1257 residues, is reported to be membrane-associated. It is a member of the Immunoglobulin superfamily, L1/neurofascin/NgCAM family and may be known by other names, including: MIC5, HSAS1, CD171, CAML1, antigen identified by monoclonal antibody R1, and neural cell adhesion molecule L1, and N-CAML1.
