NFAT1 is an alias of the human NFATC2 gene, which encodes the protein, nuclear factor of activated T cells 2. Notably, NFAT1 is known to play a role in cell migration and DNA damage pathways, among other functions. The NFATC2 protein is 925 amino acid residues in length and 100.1 kilodaltons in mass. However, as many as 5 protein isoforms have been identified. It is localized to the nucleus and cytoplasm of the cell. In terms of tissue specificity, it is reported to be expressed in thymus, spleen, heart, testis, brain, placenta, muscle and pancreas. This protein is known to be ubiquitinated and phosphorylated. Other names for this target antigen include JCOSL and NFATP.
