Anti-Aquaporin 4 antibodies are directed against the protein encoded by the gene AQP4 in humans. The Aquaporin 4 protein has an expected mass of 34.8 kDa, but there are 2 reported isoforms. The protein may also be known as MIWC, WCH4, aquaporin type4, and mercurial-insensitive water channel. Variants of this antigen may also be found in other species, including canine, porcine, monkey, mouse and rat.
