Anti-IST1 factor associated with ESCRT-III antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the IST1 gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 364 amino acid residues and a mass of 39.8 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the nucleus, cytoplasmic vesicles, and cytoplasm. Alternative splicing is reported to yield 6 different isoforms for this protein. A member of the IST1 protein family, it is known to be an eSCRT-III-like protein involved in cytokinesis, nuclear envelope reassembly and endosomal tubulation. Other names for this target antigen include OLC1, IST1 homolog, IST1, ESCRT-III associated factor, IST1, endosomal sorting complex required for transport-III component, and CHMP8. Gene orthologs have been identified in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, zebrafish, chimpanzee and chicken species.
