Antibody Purification involves selective enrichment or specific isolation of antibodies from serum, ascites fluid, or cell culture supernatant. Purification is required to obtain antibody probes that can be used effectively in multiple types of detection methods. There are a variety of purification methods, ranging from non-specific to highly specific. The methods are classified under physiochemical fractionation, class-specific affinity, or antigen- specific affinity, in increasing order of specificity. When choosing the appropriate purification method keep in mind both the antibody of interest as well as the future downstream analysis.
