I work in a virology lab and we use this equipment for RNA extraction. It is very convenient and time-saving for DNA/RNA extraction of a great number of samples and also for keeping consistency of results, especially for downstream applications such as qPCR. This model can process up to 96 samples. One round of RNA extraction takes about 45-55 minutes (it depends if you add a DNAse treatment or not). It is necessary to prepare the plates with the different solutions necessary for extraction, but once that's done, the equipment will do the rest. In my lab, we use the Zymo Research MagBeads RNA extraction kit. After extraction, samples are eluted in a 96-well plate that can be immediately used or stored at -80 degrees.

Summary

The Good

It allows user to extract RNA from up to 96 samples at the same time. Hence this helps save a ton of time.

The Bad

N/A

The Bottom Line

A dose-response graph was obtained by plotting the 2^(-ddCT) and log of compound concentration. Since this equipment allows me to extract RNA from up to 96 samples at the same time, I could automate this step and save a ton of time. After RNA extraction I used the material for a qPCR run and determined ddCT and 2^(-ddCT). Then, these values were plotted against the log of compound concentration and I obtained a dose-response curve and EC50 for this virus.
