I always use Blotting Grade Blocker Non-Fat Dry Milk (NFDM) as a blocking buffer for saturating excess protein-binding sites on membranes when doing Western blot, only when I don't use phosphor-specific antibodies. I usually use around 5% for most Western blots, and I always obtain clear and clean membranes.

Tips

I usually use 5% for most Western blots and this give me always better results.

Results Summary

I used Blotting Grade Blocker Non Fat Dry Milk (NFDM) of BIORAD as a blocking buffer for saturating excess protein-binding sites on membranes doing a Western blot (using a non-phosphor-specific antibody). I obtained a very clean membrane and a clear detection of the bands when imaging.

Summary

The Good

Clean membranes and clear bands detection.

The Bad

The Bottom Line

When doing Western blots with non-phosphor-specific antibodies, I usually prefer to use this NFDM as blotting grade blocker agent for saturating excess protein-binding sites. In particular, the BIORAD agent always gave me clean membrane and this mean clear detection of the protein bands.
