Catalog Number:

SUM159PT

SUM159 is a mesenchymal triple-negative breast cancer cell line with high usefulness for many studies. Cells grow well in appropriate media with supplements. These cells were used to investigate the effects of novel inhibitors of signaling pathways (e.g. NF-kB). This cell line is one of the most proliferative of TNBC cell lines and is highly recommended for cancer-related studies. Transfection of cells with lipofectamine has also been found be quite proficient.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

Signaling inhibition studies

Starting Material

Protocol Overview

Cells are grown in Ham's F12 media with 5% FBS, hydrocortisone, insulin

Tips

Make sure to passage cells in timely manner

Results Summary

Cell viability studies can be used to measure effects of drugs. This is done via different platforms such as luminescence. Transfection of cells has also been found to be quite efficient as well.

Summary

The Good

Transfection and measurement of cell viability are quite easy. More flexible in terms of passaging than other cell lines.

The Bad

Must be careful not to let overgrow so should maintain fairly regularly.

The Bottom Line

This is an easy-to-use cell line which requires some but not a lot of maintenance. Transfection of cells for many applications is quite simple and evaluation of cell viability is not difficult. Recommended cell line to use for cancer studies.
