I am a PhD candidate at the University of Toronto studying HIV Immunology. Tim-3 is a T cell exhaustion marker, in simpler terms expression of Tim-3 on a T cell (CD4 or CD8) means that the cell can no longer produce cytokines such as IFN-g in response to contact with an infected cell - in the context of HIV, an infected cell persists instead of being killed. I used this antibody for flow cytometry staining of human PBMCs and T cells (CD4 and CD8) particularly. Data has been published in the Journal of Immunology (2012).
