Cellular matrix and hydrogel reagents act as nutrient-rich scaffolding platforms for tissue growth and engineering. Hydrogels are 3-D polymer networks that can expand to retain a large amount of water due to cross-linking of the polymer chains. Both natural and synthetic hydrogels are available, and cellular matrices that are tissue-specific are usually made through decellularization. The nutrients and proteins incorporated into each formulation may also vary to better support certain types of cells and tissue.
