Factor Xa

Factor Xa, also known as coagulation factor Xa, is the activated form of Factor X, which plays a role in blood coagulation. Factor Xa is an active serine protease and is part of the prothrombinase complex. This complex catalyzes the rapid conversion of prothrombin to thrombin. Factor Xa activates prothrombin, a single-chain molecule, by hydrolyzing two peptide bonds. Protothrombinase is an enzyme complex composed of factor Xa (enzyme) and factor Va (cofactor) assembled on a cellular surface in the presence of calcium ions. Factor Xa inhibitors are being explored for the treatment of conditions such as venous thromboembolism. Visit the supplier page for more information, including units of enzyme activity.
