T4 RNA Ligases

T4 RNA ligases are enzymes that catalyze the formation of phosphodiester bonds between 5'-phosphate and 3'-hydroxyl termini of single-stranded RNA and DNA, as well as oligonucleotides in an ATP dependent reaction. T4 Bacteriophages encode 2 proteins with ligase activity: T4 RNA ligase 1 and T4 RNA ligase 2, which prefer double-stranded substrates. RNA ligases can be used to join RNA to other RNA, modify tRNA, synthesize oligoribonucleotides, create hybrid and chimeric DNA/RNA molecules, and generate miRNA clones. Visit the supplier page for more enzyme information, including units of activity.
