BCA Protein Assay Kits

BCA protein assay kits are available from several suppliers to measure total protein concentrations of solutions. Peptide bonds in the sample, largely influenced by cysteine, tyrosine and tryptophan residues, will first reduce Cu2+ ions from the copper(II) sulfate to Cu+. Two molecules of bicinchoninic acid (BCA) will then bind each Cu+ ion to form a purple solution that can be measured at a peak absorbance wavelength of 562 nm. BCA assays are highly sensitive, reliable, and can be used to determine yields in whole cell lysates and purified protein samples. They can also be used to detect protein contamination.
