Amphotericin B is an antifungal antibiotic which was first isolated from a Streptomyces bacterium. It is a polyene antifungal that acts by binding to ergosterol, a cell membrane component of most fungi, and by creating membrane ion channels that cause cell death. It also causes oxidative damage within the cell through the formation of free radicals. In addition to its antifungal effects, Amphotericin B is used to inhibit protozoans such as those that cause leishmaniasis and amoebic meningoencephalitis. Choose the volume, weight, or preparation that best suits your experimental needs.
