Agarose

Agarose is a natural polymer made of D-galactose and repeating units of 3,6-anhydro-L-galactose. Used mainly for gel electrophoresis, agarose has other applications such as gel filtration chromatography and affinity purification. Its most common use is in the preparation of agarose gels, where pore size depends on agarose concentration. Most agarose gels are neutral but alkaline gels are used for single-stranded nucleic acid separation. The compound is available commercially as two main types, hydroxyethylated agarose and unmodified agarose. Agarose has UV transparency and is less toxic than certain other gel preparations, making it a more desirable alternative. It can also be formulated to target specific enzymes such as trypsin-like proteases or zymogens and enhanced to reduce band distortion during electrophoresis. Choose from a range of general agarose and specifically altered agarose depending on your research needs.
