Anti-GalNAc-T16 antibodies enable researchers to detect and measure the GalNAc-T16 antigen in biological samples. This target is a reported synonym of the GALNT16 gene, which encodes polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 16. This protein is known to catalyze the initial reaction in O-linked oligosaccharide biosynthesis, the transfer of an N-acetyl-D-galactosamine residue to a serine or threonine residue on the protein receptor. The human version of GalNAc-T16 has a canonical amino acid length of 558 residues and a protein mass of 63.1 kilodaltons, although 2 isoforms have been identified. It is reported to be localized in the Golgi of cells and widely expressed in many tissue types. GalNAc-T16 is a member of the Glycosyltransferase 2 protein family.
