Anti-fibrocystin antibodies are used in antigen-specific immunodetection in biological samples. The target fibrocystin is a known alias name of the protein PKHD1 ciliary IPT domain containing fibrocystin/polyductin, encoded by the PKHD1 gene in humans. This 4074-amino acid residue protein is reported to promote ciliogenesis in renal epithelial cells and therefore participates in the tubules formation and/ or ensures the maintenance of the architecture of the lumen of the kidney (By similarity). It is localized to the cell membrane of the cell and features N-glycosylated, palmitoylated and cleaved post-translational modifications. In terms of tissue expression, it is reported to be highly expressed in the fetal and adult kidney.
