Anti-PPOX antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein protoporphyrinogen oxidase. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 477 amino acid residues and a mass of 50.8 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the mitochondria. It is found to be expressed in heart, brain, placenta, lung, liver, skeletal muscle, kidney and pancreas. A member of a the Protoporphyrinogen/coproporphyrinogen oxidase protein family, PPOX is known to catalyze the 6-electron oxidation of protoporphyrinogen-IX to form protoporphyrin-IX. Synonyms for this target antigen include V290M, VP, and PPO.
