Anti-DSG1 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein desmoglein 1. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 1049 amino acid residues and a mass of 113.7 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cell membrane, nucleus, and cytoplasm. Up to 2 different isoforms have been reported for this protein. It is notably expressed in the vagina, skin, oral mucosa, esophagus, and cervix. DSG1 is known to be a component of intercellular desmosome junctions. Post-translational modifications have been described, including glycosylation. The DSG1 gene has been associated with the disease, Palmoplantar keratoderma. Synonyms for this target antigen include DG1, DSG, EPKHE, EPKHIA, PPKS1, SPPK1, cadherin family member 4, and CDHF4. DSG1 gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, bovine and chimpanzee species. Over 80 citations in the literature describe the use of DSG1 antibodies in research. Western Blot is a widely used application for these antibodies. Immunofluorescence and Immunohistochemistry are also common applications.
