Company:

Thermo Fisher Scientific

Product Name:

PureLink RNA Mini Kit

Catalog Number:

12183025

We use the PureLink™ RNA Mini Kit from ThermoFisher to isolate RNA from primary mouse astrocytes for subsequent RNA-seq or qRT-PCR.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

RNA extraction

Starting Material

Primary mouse astrocytes

Tips

Additionally needed: 2-mercaptoethanol and ethanol.

Results Summary

We use a column-based PureLink RNA Mini Kit to extract RNA from mouse primary astrocytes for gene expression analysis. We use an 18-gauge needle with an RNase-free syringe to homogenize the cells and follow the manufacturer's protocol without any modifications. Image: RNA profile on the TapeStation.

Summary

The Good

Fast and easy RNA extraction.

The Bad

This kit does not work with isolated cells using columns in combination with magnetic antibodies (MicroBead-labeled cells).

The Bottom Line

High-quality total RNA can be obtained in a very fast time, approximately 20 minutes. The manufacturer protocol is very well-written and does not require any special equipment (except a microcentrifuge capable of centrifuging at 12,000 x g) or toxic reagents.
