Dimethyl Sulfoxide

Info:Supplier Page
I always use Dimethyl sulfoxide as a cryoprotectant vitrification agent for the preservation of cells. I usually add 5% in cell freezing media - in fetal bovine serum (FBS) - to protect cells from ice crystal-induced mechanical injury. When I thaw the cells from liquid nitrogen, I just slowly add a warm medium at 37 degrees and then resuspend them in their culture medium (without a necessary centrifuge step). The next day I changed the medium to remove the DMSO. The cells have never shown any problems with viability.

N/A
Not aggressive as reagent and reliable.
After thawing the cells have never shown any problems with viability even if the Dimethyl sulfoxide is removed the next day by centrifugation.
