We use this thermocycler for a variety of things that can be done in PCR strips, including PCR amplification, ligations, restriction digests, and preparation of sequencing samples. In essence, anything that is done at a small volume at a specific temperature can easily be done in this instrument.

Summary

The Good

You can copy a protocol into your own folder and modify it for your own needs.

The Bad

It has a large footprint, which could be an issue if you don't have a lot of space.

The Bottom Line

Because you can save and easily access a large number of protocols, it is easy to program the machine. The user interface is well designed and makes the thermocycler very easy to use. The most useful feature is that you can copy protocols from another person and edit them in your own folder. In our lab, where many of us use the same kits and protocols, this means that we don't have to create a new program. We simply copy another lab member's and make small adjustments for our specific needs.
