As an immunology lab, we perform many antibody bead-based cell separations using the Miltenyi Bio isolation kits. Using these kits requires a magnet since it requires magnetic columns (LS) to enrich for cells of interest. This magnet is optimized for certain columns for a total of four samples at once.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

Manual Cell Separation using Isolation Kits (Miltentyi)

Protocol Overview

Use the appropriate isolation kit and magnetic columns for your cells of interest such as naive CD4 T cells. Follow protocol for incubation and such. Attach LS column and wet the columns before dispersing the cell mixture through the column to obtain untouched CD4 T cells.

Tips

Make sure the column is tightly fitted onto the magnet.

Features Summary

Can perform four manual isolations at once.

Summary

The Good

Easy to use since it's manual isolations.

The Bad

Column-based isolations are expensive since the columns themselves are pricey.

The Bottom Line

Convenient way to manually isolate cells of interest using column-based method. This magnet allows this process to occur quite fast.
