The research group mainly focuses on DNA damage and repair. Part of our studies involves using a transgenic animal model. This involves regular genotyping so we can use the right animal for the studies. It is very important that we have a PCR machine that is accurate for some very temperamental PCR. Efficient and accurate.

Protocol Overview

It is a touch screen digital device where different group members can have their own folders and programs set up for their PCR. There are some inbuilt programs and a blank program that can be edited and per the requirement of the user. There is a heated lid facility that has default of 99C but can be changed to 105C. A USB port to copy and transfer program as and when required.After loading the sample tubes the lid can be dropped down and tightened with the screw cap on the top. A block and the program can be selected and the program needs to be run.

Tips

Nothing specific but use4 balancing empty tubes at 4 corners to avoid squashing of the tubes when you tighten the lid

Bright red color, can not miss it. And very very silent machine- will never notice even if all the 3 blocks were running

The Good

1.Touch screen is user friendly. 2. Brilliantly quiet machine. You can never tell if it is working or not. 3. Multiblock so can be used by 3 different users with different programs at the same time

The screen could have been little more brighter but that is a personal preference. No gradient capacity
