I'm interested in understanding the molecular mechanism of hedgehog signal transduction. In this experiment, I needed to PCR amplify a protein coding gene from a plasmid template for downstream applications. This Thermal Cycler was extensively tested during demo phase and was then purchased by our lab.
PCR amplification
Plasmid DNA as template
Standard PCR reaction conditions
Need to have PCR tube strips on the extreme end lanes if setting up PCR with few tubes. This prevents tube crushing during PCR because different labs use different PCR tubes (dome or flat cap shaped).
This Thermal Cycler works as promised by the vendor. In our two years of usage, the machine did fail (abruptly end PCR program) twice. The instrument reason was vague because the next time we set up the reactions, it was fine. Otherwise, a very easy to use instrument.
VeriFlex blocks with three independent temperature controls is a nice feature!

Easy to use
Nothing major
Easy to use and a good system considering size and purchase cost.
