Hemavet 950FS
CDC-9950-00
We investigate the mechanisms of autoimmune hemolytic anemia in mice. Blood samples from affected mice is collected into heparin-coated tubes and run on the Hemavet to obtain complete blood counts to assess severity of anemia. The Hemavet 950FS requires only 20uL of blood for optimal results and Erba Diagnostics sells control blood samples for standardizing the machine.
We generally use in to determine hematocrit in anemic mice.
Isolated mouse blood
Before running samples, run an "Other" cycle to make sure values are low. Run control blood sample from Erba, checking that values fall within the range described for that lot. Then run blood samples. Ensure there are no clots present in the sample before running.
The blood samples can be viablly used longer than stated, but once the values aren't within expected range, switch controls.
Obtained the complete blood counts from autoimmune mice at during early disease and was able to create predictive models for disease progression and outcome. Complete blood counts are also useful in determining disease severity in a mouse using a small sample of blood.
Easy to use and the manual is very helpful when learning and troubleshooting.

Results are consistant
It makes a lot of noise during operation
Drew Scientific's Hemavet 950FS has worked as intended and has adequately provided me with useful information from blood samples
