UV-Vis-NIR Spectrophotometers

UV Vis NIR spectrophotometers use light to qualitatively and quantitatively analyze samples based on how much light travels through the sample and how much is reflected off of it. Biochemistry and molecular biology labs use UV Vis NIR spectrophotometers for analysis of samples. The spectrophotometers can be single beam, double beam or split beam. The single beam UV Vis NIR spectrophotometers measure light intensity before and after the sample is put in place. The split beam and double beam versions send one beam through a reference sample and one through the sample to be analyzed. The type of UV Vis NIR spectrophotometer (single, double, or split beam), the wavelength accuracy, and the bandwidth needed are important to determine before making a purchase. Other considerations before buying include deciding between bench top or portable and how high a volume and throughput the spectrophotometer can accommodate.
