EDTA

EDTA or ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid is a chelator of metal ions, such as iron, copper, and zinc. Appearing as a white compound in solid form, the water-soluble reagent deactivates metal-dependent enzymes, making it useful in biochemistry and molecular biology applications. Among its uses are for inhibiting protein-degrading metalloproteases or dNTP-hydrolyzing enzymes. EDTA is often added to buffers, such as Tris-Acetate (TAE), to help prevent the denaturation of DNA. Ready-to-use, concentrated solutions of EDTA are also available. Visit the supplier page for more reagent information.
