TE Buffers

TE buffer, or Tris-EDTA buffer, is a solution often used in nucleic acid purification, in steps such as lysis, elution, washing, and storage of DNA and RNA. TE buffer is an appropriate solution for suspending nucleic acids and maintaining the pH. Its formulation generally constitutes 10 mM Tris-HCl and 1 mM EDTA. Tris maintains the pH, while EDTA, a metal chelating agent, inactivates DNases or RNases by binding to metal cofactors and preventing enzymatic activity. Tris buffer solutions are also used in other procedures, such as protein purification and primer resuspension. Visit the reagent supplier page for more information, including formulation and format.
