TEMED

TEMED (tetramethylethylenediamine), also called TMEDA, is an ethylenediamine derivative with the chemical formula of C6H16N2. TEMED is commonly used with ammonium persulfate (APS) during the production of polyacrylamide gels for gel electrophoresis, where it plays a role as a catalyst in the reaction. The compound acts as a Lewis base and is widely used as a ligand for metal ions, forming stable complexes with metal halides such as zinc chloride. TEMED, which has a notably strong odor, is colorless but may turn yellow over a long period of time. Visit the supplier page for more product information.
